a nice note

Many people would call me a good friend. Few of them would call me nice. If I'm not nice, am I therefore mean? That thought used to bother me.

I got a few nice notes from people in the past few days. Note to readers: Nice isn't always nice. Often it is deceitful, cowardly and fake.

Your random quote is :

"He who praises everybody, praises nobody."
Samuel Johnson

I thought it was fitting for your post.

It's funny, but just last week I was reconsidering the value of superficiality. It has its good side too. Like, I used to worry about whether I did nice things for people because I was really nice, or if I just sought praise, but now I don't care anymore. Anyway, have a NICE day...AT WORK!!!

To kcprogrammer: It was a happy coincidence that the daily quote coincided with my post. I'm glad you pointed it out.

Sadly, I don't think that quote works in reverse. I doubt few would agree that he who criticizes all, criticizes nobody. I think most would just call him an ass.

BBD: Goodness and niceness are different to me. Goodness has a truer sense of wishing wellbeing for others. Niceness is about making the appearance of wishing wellbeing.

I don't think I am not a good person simply because I'm not a particularly nice one. We all have our spots of goodness (though perhaps those areas are sometimes overshadowed by our selfishness).

And, in my opinion, most relationships are selfish. I get something out of being your friend. So, I'm going to do what I must to try to keep that. It may sound calloused, but then again it's showing a person's true value. And you take the best care of that which you value most.

Oh, and I have the day off. HA! And it's better than nice. It's GOOD.

*pats head* Everyone has the a light and dark half. And often our actions refect both. I've had a few thoughts on this lately too, meeting some people who are just TOO nice, that it seems to detract the sincerity in their actions. I do not like it...

I do not think you are one of them. ^^
